I Just Forgot - Mercer Mayer

Little Critter keeps meaning to remember to do the chores his mom wants him to do but he just seems to keep forgetting to do them! However, the one thing Little Critter never forgets is his goodnight kiss. I would implement this story in my classroom as a writing/drawing prompt for students to discuss a time when they forgot to do something important or something that they never forget to do. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

Nothing seems to be going right for Little Critter and he can't help but be a little mad about it. In the end he forgets all about it when he gets to hang out with his friends. I would implement this book in my classroom as a writing/drawing prompt for students to discuss a time when they were mad but then they were able to calm down. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

Little Critter wants to show off everything he can do by himself. However, he cannot do things as well as he seems to think. I would implement this book as a writing/drawing prompt for students to discuss something they can do all by themselves. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

Little Critter wants to show his mother just how much she means to him. For his mother this means a big mess. I would implement this book in the classroom as writing/drawing opportunity for students to make a card for someone important in their lives. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

Wemberly worries about everything. Then she worries some more. When Wemberly starts school, she is more worried than she has ever been until she makes a friend who worries just as much as she does. I would implement this book in my classroom as a writing/drawing prompt for students to discuss a time when they were worried about something and everything turned out okay. This book is intended for K,1st, and 2nd graders.

Everyone around him wants Owen to grow up. Owen is not ready to let go of his beloved blanket,Fuzzy, yet. In this story the characters learn that it is okay to embrace the old with the new. I would implement this book in the classroom as a way to help younger students adjust to the changes they must face when they start school. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

Louise wishes she was brave like her big sister, Shelia Rae. When Shelia Rae gets lost on an adventure, Louise learns to face her fears and saves the day. I would implement this book in my classroom as an anchor chart on what makes someone brave. This book is intended for K, 1st and 2nd graders.

Lilly is convinced that she will make the very best flower girl but the job goes to someone else. Lilly is heartbroken. When the real flower girl freezes up when it is time to walk down the aisle, Lilly must decide whether or not to do the right thing. I would implement this book in the classroom as a writing/drawing prompt for students to share about a time they had to decide to do the right thing or not. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

Chester likes things to be done a certain way, his way. He does not like change. That is, until Lilly moves in. Chester learns that it is okay to mix things up sometimes. I would implement this book in my classroom as a way to talk about diversity. I would have students make an anchor chart on a topic like eating sandwiches. Then the class would discuss how they eat sandwiches-with crusts, without crusts, cut in triangles, cut in rectangles, or they don't eat sandwiches, gross! This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

This is a wonderful book about self-confidence. In this story Chrysanthemum must learn that being different is not a bad thing. I would implement this book in my classroom by having students make anagrams out of their names using words that describe them. I would use this book to encourage students to embrace their names as part of what makes them individuals. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

This is a great book. In this story Lilly does something really mean to her teacher and regrets it. She has to learn how to seek forgiveness and make amends. I would use this book in the classroom as a writing/drawing opportunity for students to share about a time they did something that they were not proud of. This story is intended for K,1st, and 2nd graders.

Yertle the Turtle and Gertrude McFuzz - Dr. Seuss

This is a Seuss tell about a greedy turtle who is hungry for power. Yertle believes that everything he sees belongs to him and he wants to see everything. In his quest to do this, he takes advantage of his turtle subjects. I would implement this story in my classroom to talk about cause and effect. Students would look at how Yertle's actions effected the end of the story. This book is intended for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders.

ED 411-A Crazy Day at the Critter Cafe

A Crazy Day at the Critter Café - Barbara Odanaka, Lee White

In the book the quiet Critter Cafe suddenly becomes a loud crazy zoo when a broken down bus brings in a lot of hungry animal customers. The cafe's employees find themselves scrambling to make the animals happy and want nothing more than to have their quiet cafe back and animal free. I would implement this book as an introduction to an animal study and have students research animal diets and compare them to what the animals eat in the book. This book is intended for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders.

ED 411-David Goes to School.

David Goes To School - David Shannon

David is always in trouble, even at school! This book follows David's misadventures at school and looks at the consequences he has to face. I would implement this book in the classroom at the beginning of the year as a way to introduce classroom rules. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd grade.

David Gets In Trouble - David Shannon

This book is a good to use when talking about classroom rules. In this book David is once again in trouble. I would implement this book in the classroom by having students feel out a chart to compare what David did to what he could have done to not get in trouble. This book is intended for K, 1st, and 2nd graders.

Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons - Eric Litwin, James Dean

In this book Pete keeps losing his buttons. However, Pete keeps his cool and just keeps singing his song. I would implement this book in the classroom when we were talking about math sentences. This book is intended for K,1st and 2nd grade.
